FRESNO, CA – Fresno School Board Trustee and Democratic candidate for State Senate Luis Chavez today announced receiving the endorsement of Governor Jerry Brown. The Chavez campaign also announced launching new television and radio ads featuring Governor Brown, who praises Chavez for his support of Proposition 1, the California Water Bond.
“The Valley has been hit hard by the drought. That’s why I’m supporting Luis Chavez for State Senate,” says Governor Brown in the ad, which will run in both the Fresno and Bakersfield media markets. “Luis and I are teaming up to pass Proposition 1, the California Water Bond. Proposition 1 will save water for the dry years. And it will also will create good Valley jobs. Luis Chavez and Proposition 1. Saving Water. Creating great jobs for the Valley. Luis Chavez will keep his promises to the Valley. You can count on it.”
“Here in the Valley, water is literally the lifeblood of our economy; water means jobs,” said Chavez. “I am grateful to have earned the support of Governor Brown, and I will continue to campaign to make sure Prop 1 passes in November. Making sure that the Valley has a safe and reliable water supply is critical to the future of the Valley. I will make sure the Valley gets its fair share when I am in the Senate.”
Luis Chavez is a successful Fresno School Board member and a former classroom teacher. He has spent his career helping youth overcome poverty and succeed through education, as he did.
Chavez also worked as a program director for Central Valley Health Network, where he recruited and trained health care workers to work in rural community health care clinics.
Chavez is now a top aide to the Fresno City Council. He has helped make the city safer by preventing drug activity and shutting down drug houses near schools.
Chavez supports implementing the minimum wage increase, improving healthcare in our rural communities, and making sure that our youth get high-quality education and job training.
